New year, new web site, lots of updates
This Airigami Bubble Mural™ was constructed by the attendees of Maker Faire Rochester and hung in the Central Library of Rochester for the month of December. This depiction of Jack’s beanstalk rising out of a library book is just the first Airigami mural to be displayed in this location.
Rewarding those that do good
The below episode of Mike Rowe’s Returning The Favor surprised I Support The Girls, a DC based non-profit led by a truly generous and kind woman, Dana Marlowe, that supplies bras and feminine products to people who need them. Kelly flew down to DC at a moment’s notice to add a giant balloon bra to the double decker bus, “as one does.”
We’ve had to keep the project under cover for a few months til this episode aired. We can’t say enough about the production team. They were troopers, the whole lot! The weather is not exaggerated at all in the episode. The production team made a lemon soufflé out of lemons! Our only regret- the big balloon tampons we designed weren’t able to be included.
The whole episode is a fun watch. Airigami starts making an appearance around 12 min in.

We thought the new year was a great time to introduce a new look. We have an all new Airigami.com. We streamlined a lot, hopefully making it much easier for you to navigate the site. We’ve made it easier for you to find the range of things we offer, as well as simplifying the gift shop. We’d love for you to take a look and let us know what you think.
Airigami projects you may have missed …
Maker Faire Rochester took place in our home town. This year, the community-built Airigami Bubble Mural that resulted from our participation in the Faire was hung in the atrium of the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County. Thanks to the Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library for making that possible.
And He Puffed, an inflated tale of the Three Little Pigs, one of our children’s books is back in print due to so many requests for it. Thanks to all of our Kickstarter backers for the support and encouragement. You can see the full book online and listen to a reading of it by our resident mathematician, Derrick Taylor. If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, you can pick up a copy in our gift shop.

Our resident mathematician
There are all sorts of things that make Airigami different from other art studios. One of them is that we have a resident mathematician. Derrick Taylor has been a regular fixture in our studio for the last few years. He’s always there to help us solve difficult math problems we have with our installations. But never mind that. We’re so excited to see The Taylor Series, his educational math series on YouTube taking off. What does that have to do with balloons? Absolutely nothing. (Well, not quite. We hear balloons will be appearing in an upcoming video.) We just wanted to share because we think the stuff he’s doing amazing.

Our next big public event is just a few weeks away in the United Arab Emirates. We’ll be doing an installation at Maker Faire Dubai at the end of February.
Summer Bookings
While it’s been below freezing almost every day in Rochester, we’ve been having fun looking at our summer bookings. We’re working on some library programming to honor the 50th anniversary of the first manned lunar landing.
